A Copy of the "Corrected List" of Tombstone Inscriptions, Schenectady N. Y. - Charlotte Taylor Luckhurst

[This book is in the Schenectady Collection of the Schenectady County Public Library. [Schdy R 974.744 L94] Surname alphabetization has been corrected where necessary. Thanks to Carol Di Crosta for data entry help.]

The transcribed copy is now in the possession of the Schenectady County Historical Society of Schenectady, New York, 1914.

These records were taken from the burial ground between Front and Green Streets, Schenectady, in 1879, when the most of them were removed to Vale Cemetery. Those marked (c) were not found, but copied from a list made by B. L. Conde. (1871?)

This copy made in March 1914 by Charlotte Taylor Luckhurst, Genealogist.

The names of those who had no headstones were taken from plates found and designated by boards.

Robert Bohanan, it is thought died about 40 years ago (1840?) His appearance was singular, being tall with high cheek bones, he wore his hair very long. Men now living remember him as attracting the attention of boys, who when not restrained by proper influences, were in the habit of shouting at him "Polly Bob" as he passed them on the street. When he died his hair was very long, was tucked up and kept in place by a comb.
